Dive into the world of printmaker Steven Huntley, whose work is inspired mostly by his experience as a person of color in America.

How did you come to do what you do?

As a child I started painting on all the walls in my home, so my parents finally bought me some art supplies. I was allowed to decorate my room, and I remember covering an entire wall with some amazing drawings!
I went on to study art at Purchase College, in Upstate New York. It was there that I met an amazing teacher called Antonio Fresconi, who taught me about printmaking and set me on this path.

What’s the most exciting part of your job?

I teach art to kids and adults, and getting to share my passion for printmaking, drawing and sculpture brings me so much joy.

What challenges do you usually encounter?

My greatest challenge is finding Institutions that are interested in my work and supporting my artistic endeavors. To be able to live from my passion is not easy all the time but I love what I do so that's what counts.

What’s your typical day like?

I wake up, make breakfast, get some fresh air on a hike, and then come home to fulfill my art orders and commissions.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

I make more art! I also really enjoy reading and chilling with my wife.
